Violet on the Runway

Violet on the Runway might be Melissa Walker’s debut novel, but she is no stranger to fashion or writing. Walker has worked for ElleGirl and Seventeen magazines as an editor and has even appeared as a fashion expert on VH1! Violet on the Runway is the story of one tall, awkward, small-town girl who is “discovered” by an agent and suddenly thrown into the topsy-turvy world of modeling. Walker does not sugar-coat the truth, but exposes the modeling life in all of its grit and glory. I love the book - Violet is such a genuinely likable heroine, witty, charming, but real. Honestly, how many of us have had delusional dreams of walking down the runway for Dior or Heatherette, even though we are only a touch over 5′? No matter, now you can live out your modeling dreams vicariously through Violet, as she tries to conquer the modeling world while remaining true to herself.

Buy it, borrow it, or check it out of your local library. And make sure to let Melissa know what you think of her book on her MySpace!
