Ballroom Dancing

After jumping on the Dancing with the Stars bandwagon a couple seasons ago, I was inspired to take up ballroom dancing with a few of my close friends. Several classes later, I have to say I completely recommend it!

It’s fun to learn with your friends, a good way to get a little exercise, and can be a great way to build on a romantic relationship. Wether you prefer the elegance of the waltz or the powerful sex appeal of the tango, ballroom dancing can be enjoyed by everyone, young and old.

Before you go running to sign up for classes, here’s a quick rundown of ballroom dance basics so you can appear the expert at your first class:

There are two types of ballroom dance - Smooth and Latin. Smooth dances include the waltz, tango, foxtrot, and quickstep. Latin dances include the rhumba, cha cha, samba, paso doble, and jive.

Smooth dances move around the floor in a counter-clockwise direction. Latin dances can travel, but most often are danced in more or less one spot.

So, what are you waiting for? Put on your dancing shoes (yes, ballroom dancing is a great excuse to buy new shoes!) and grab a partner!
