EDDIE VEDDER – INTO THE WILD
Taking a break from his day job fronting rock heavyweightPearl Jam, Eddie Vedder immerses himself into the big-screen story of a youngman who gives all his money to charity and hitchhikes to a new life; and hiseventual death - in the wilds of Alaska. Prompted by the film’s creator, SeanPenn, to contribute to the musical score, the Seattle musician tackled theentire project, playing every instrument on the soundtrack’s nine original andtwo cover songs. Vedder contemplates the traveler “setting forth in theuniverse” in the opener Setting Forth, then tracks in the remaining songsthe realizations and disillusionments that follow.

CUFF THE DUKE – SIDELINES OF THE CITY
TheOriginally Oshawa based group Cuff The Duke debuted in 2002 on Toronto-indieThree Gut Records with rave reviews. Since then, being a hit on certain collegeradio stations and by anyone who’s seen them live; has been great for theirreputation. Refreshing, simple - yet innovative, with an experimental instinctlike no other. Incorporating organs, Glockenspiels, Trumpets, Fiddle and a Saw,yes that’s right; a saw. It does have a hint of country/ folk but it’s reallygood. (I, personally, am not at all a country fan). It’s more then that though,it’s got a very laid back, haunting feel. I loved it the first time I heard it.

BAND OF HORSES – CEASE TO BEGIN
Wellwe’re on a roll here this week because it’s been great album after great album;here comes Band of Horses. For a lot of reasons,Cease to Begin is the perfect title for this new record. Not only do the songsthemselves weave this theme through the record, but stopping and starting anewis also a reflection of the past year and a half for Band of Horses. Thoughthey worked with producer Phil Ek again, as they did on Everything All theTime, much has changed between the fairly recent then and now. There have beenband members who have come and gone. Cease to Begin is truly a pleasure tolisten to from start to finish.
