Smoosh

Last night I had the honour of seeing Tokyo Police Club, Attack In Black and a fabulous band called Smoosh. I’ve heard their music before the show and was impressed, but last night, I was totally blown away. When Smoosh first took the stage, I was astounded to find out that this talented band consisted of two girls. As their set continued and another member took the stage, another girl, I noticed that all these girls looked quite similar. After doing some research I realized that this amazingly talented three piece consisted of three sisters, all under the age of 17. Asya, the singer/keyboardist is 16, Chole, the drummer/backup singer is 14 & Maia, bass player who joined the band last year, is a mere 12. Smoosh’s first album “She Like Electric”, was released in 2004, making the oldest member only 12. The sound that comes from this band, live especially, is nothing I’ve ever experienced before with this few band members, at times it sounded like there was an orchestra playing with them. Check out this incredible band on Myspace to hear what they have to give the world. What makes these girls even more talented, is that all their lyrics are written by them. Smoosh is the underage sibling version of Arcade Fire. In my opinion, Arcade Fire is one of the most talented bands out there today, so I am guessing that in less than six months, Smoosh will be a household name. Here’s a You Tube video of them performing on Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2006.
