The Vancouver International Children’s Festival is here again and will run from May 12 - 19. It’s a great way to bring your kids to enjoy the sights and sounds of this world reknown festival. Or you can just go with friends and have fun reliving your childhood. Its a colourful vibrant event filled with songs, animation, food, shows, magic, and dance. You may have already seen the flags and tents at Vanier park as you drove through Burrard bridge.
I remembered the times I volunteered there as a high school student. Even though some of us were not particularly artistic, we had fun taking care of the face-painting area. It did get a bit hairy though when a child wanted to paint Spiderman or a Transformer on his face. I was 16 but still got excited when I heard that Fred Penner was performing. My generation grew up on songs by well loved musicians such as Fred Penner and Sharon, Lois, and Bram. This was WAY before the times of Hilary Duff and Miley Cyrus. I am sure your childhood memories would keep rushing back if you hear “The Cat Came Back” again…it sure did for me.
