Personal lookbooks

After being couped up for several long months, my eyes grow big and wide with the ever increasing adorable spring and summer clothes popping up like crocuses. I want to go nuts and buy every racer-back tanks and bubble skirt I see to help celebrate. Alas, I know in a few short weeks, my fickle heart will begin to yearn for the beautiful dark hues of the fall, especially in the form of cozy cardigans and elegant trenches.
So how do I tame this never-quenched beast?!?
If anyone ever visits the Scott Schulman’s blog The Sartorialist (which I highly recommend), he recently hit upon an ideal that is close to my heart. A fashion photographer, he looked back over his photos from last spring of looks and fashion details that he wanted to incorporate this year to his personal style.
After feeling like I was buying pieces all over the fashion map, and then finding I couldn’t really create outfits, like Schulman, I started pieceing together my personal lookbook from season to season. I have uploaded some pictures from my book (yes, its pink-lined paper with whales in the corners).
I read one reason designers use lookbooks when working on their upcoming season is because they look for trends (i.e. a certain color they continually like). That absolutely is what I try to do with mine - and it works! I always find myself drawn to pictures with great coats (as seen in the photos I uploaded). For me, seeing all the pictures together in a booklet really helps me when I’m shopping. It prevents me from the impulse buying habits I fall into when the seasons change. It also helps me build a wardrobe, rather than separate pieces.
